We already have had so much rain here I have ankle deep puddles in places I never had puddles before.
Thursday night our forecast called for drizzle on Saturday night and Sunday. Less than 0.25" rain. OK, great, I have been waiting for some light rain for weeks so I could put down grass seed without having it washed/floated away. Spent Friday afternoon and Saturday morning aerating, putting down seed, etc. Well, what came through Saturday night through Sunday night was instead heavy rain intermingled with downpours. I just took a look this morning and all my seed is gone, probably all washed to the low end of my field. This would be the second year in a row I was not able to get a winter grass established. And that means it will be muddy until May when the weeds come back to life.
I am thankful we haven't had direct hit hurricanes here in VA. With the ground as saturated as it is, it would be a repeat of Isabel. Trees were toppling left and right during that storm. The ground was so saturated the roots had nothing to hang on to. I have never seen so many big old trees uprooted like that.
