Did you know Roundup Ready sweet corn is now available?

I'm just a gardener who loves to garden and give away the produce. And I have enjoyed reading almost all of this thread. So "Thank You" to those who have spent some time posting on this subject.

I generally don't use any insecticides and never anything but a hoe and my fingers to eradicate the weeds. This year I didn't get the Sevin on the Cukes and melons as the beetles started to appear. Thus the harvest season was cut short. Yet, there was still more harvest than I could hardly get rid of.

Of course my garden has little to do with feeding of the world and the businesses involved therein. Still, "Thanks" for the discussions.

P.S. Actually, I lost more corn and melons to the racoons than to the beetles/weeds. Is there a GMO for that? :D

Interesting note. After my sweet corn is done, I spray the residual weeds to kill off problems in future years. Normally it also kills the corn that has started to sprout. This year, however there were many volunteer corn plants that withstood the glyphosate spray. Since my sweet corn is a nothing special, my guess is we are coming closer to commercially available Roundup resistant garden variety sweet corn for the masses and if so, maybe it's in trials somewhere to have what appears to be resistant seed show up. Just an update for those interested.

Natural adapabilty :confused3:

At work we have raised garden beds and an area of about 1 acre that was planted with Seminis Obsession II sweet corn. We donate all the vegetables to the regional food bank. The bag of seed had little over 25k seeds and was around $380. Used a 8 row crop planter and 200 lbs of fertilizer (urea) had the best year in crop production, took over 8000 lbs of sweet corn to the food bank. The employees also took home their fill, still have a few bags in the freezer :). Search web there are smaller quantities of seed packets available and several different varieties.
