Mahindra 4025
The last few years I've wondered why the gauges on my 2012 4025 stopped working.... sometimes. It turns out they work fine. The problem is that if it's not run in a while, the plastic gauge needle "sticks" to the post. It's something about the type of plastic they use. I took off the panel and carefully scraped the black paint off the posts, and put some silicone spray there where they touch, and bingo, problem solved.

A couple of years later, the lubricant had dried out and they were sticking again. Now I have a medium sized rubber dead-blow hammer, and when they're sticking, I just thump it a couple of times and they come loose.

I wonder how much money Mahindra has spent replacing instrument panels that "weren't working."

They probably haven't replaced many panels. Their mechanic does the same thing you did. He taps on the panel and they start working again. It is possible that you may have a loose or corroded connection in the wiring harness under the dash and when you tap it the connection comes back. Next time it does it check any harnesses that unplug and look for corrosion or rust.

I ordered a new instrument panel for my brother's Mahindra 4025 from Ebay.
I have the same model. The ad said it was for several series of Mahindras, including the 4025. The old one has 2 extra wires that this doesn't have, and the tachometer and fuel guage don't work. I'm wondering where these 2 wires went. He stated that the tachometer pegs out on the new panel. The ad stated that the part number was E00700898B91. The panel received was E007700895B91. I'm thinking we should pay the 60 bucks shipping and get the 265.00 refund, then we go to the local tra for place where we purchased these and pay the 324.00 from them.
Anyone agree?

I had that happen for a part ordered on Ebay a few years ago. Like you, the part ordered and part rec'd were different numbers. I contacted Ebay and said seller sent wrong part. Ebay must have contacted seller. They said no problem and would take back and send correct part I ordered. Correct part arrived and in box was a note and a return address label saying put incorrect part in box, apply return address label and call UPS to pick up. Don't contact seller direct, go thru Ebay. Sellers don't want a bad mark from Ebay so they made it good. No cost to me.

If the you received the wrong part number, you contact the seller and tell him. If he doesn't fix it, then you contact ebay and let them refund you. Don't pay the seller's 'return fee' or shipping for something that is their mistake.
