Died (offroad) diesel OK\'d for road use

The Times-Picayune has announced that died diesel fuel, normally restricted for off-road use, will be permitted for road use at least through 9/15/2005 in order to relieve availability problems. Read the article by clicking
here and scrolling down to " Treasury, IRS take steps to make additional diesel fuel available ". This is a blog with frequent updates and the article might not be available beyond today.

Now they can jack up the price on that.

If you go to the IRS web site you will see that while you are allowed to use it, you still must pay the tax on it...so it won't be a dollar savings, just a way to help increase supply, and you won't be fined if caught using it as long as you have records of tax payments. From the sounds of it, the distributers of the red-dye will more than likely charge you the price of the red-dye and add the 24.4 cents to the price in order to keep themselves from being fined for selling it to you.

That's exactly what the Times-Picayune article said. It's also exactly what the IRS announcement said, i.e., nothing to do with the price of diesel, everything to do with availability.

I don't get it. What are you correcting me on? The Time-Picayune article is not there anymore so how could I have seen what it said? Nobody else mentioned the IRS announcement...except me. The original post only said you could use red-dye fuel...it didn't mention that you could use it, but will have to pay the cost of it PLUS 24.4 cents per gallon tax. I was clarifying that the move doesn't mean you will be buying it at red-dye prices (if someone understood it to mean that).

I don't think he was correcting you. I think he was further supporting your point. Take a deep breath and calm down. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I took it as a compliment to you. Even though you hadn't seen the artcles he mentioned, your analysis was good. As a matter of fact, it was so good, it was exactly what the articles reported, and he was letting you know that.

Gatorboy posted a link to a Forbes.com article about the IRS announcement.
