I recently had a thread on the MF forum regarding a '59 TO35 that my hunt club bought for $1000. Well, we are finding out why it was $1000. 
When we got it, there was water in the tranny/hyd compartments. Of course, we drained it, tried to flush as best we could, and then refilled it. So, the lift works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. We knew there was water in it when we got it though but didn't think it would lead to this. Also, when we first looked at the tractor, the radiator fluid was "clean and green". Now after running it a few hours, it looks like there is diesel fuel in the radiator fluid. This is the standard 4cyl diesel engine. Anyone have any ideas on what might be the culprit with that? We are thinking it might be something with the head gasket but don't know for sure. All indications with the engine oil is that is it engine oil only, no foreign liquids in the oilpan, which is good.
Apparently the old codger that sold us the tractor had just put fresh antifreeze in it knowing that it would temporarily hide a known problem. Anyway, the problem is ours now and we have to figure out what's wrong with it and see how much it's gonna cost us to get it fixed. We will probably wait a few weeks before we really get into. Right now deer season just started up so rather than tear into an old tractor, we would rather go deer hunting. We'll deal with it later in the season.
But, any advice/comments/tips to plan our approach would be appreciated.
