I was given some Diesel Fuel. It was in a VERY large tank, that did not get turned over often enough, so they opted for a smaller tank. I suspect that there has been a lot of "Kleen Flow" Diesel Additive added to this fuel.

My little Kubota 40HP loader struggles to get up a steep slope. (Sorry, I have computer issues and can only compose this a bit at a time!)

Anyway, now my machine has less power then before and a lot of black smoke is pouring from the exhaust under load.

I am most curious, if this could have anything to do with the fuel.

What do you plan to do with the fuel? Heating or running in your truck?

I ran a large batch of VERY old fuel through my '81 Mercedes and it loved it. A heating boiler wouldn't even notice the age.

Your tractor is designed to run on diesel, not fuel stablizer, so I assume you could have too much, but I'd say not likely. If in doubt, I'd probably blend it with fresh diesel.

If the fuel was questionable I would dispose of if. No amount of free fuel is worth damaging your tractor.

Run good clean fuel through the tractor and see if the issue goes away.

Are you sure the fuel in the tank was diesel and not furnace oil? At least in the US, the standards for furnace oil and diesel are different. Some people report they can run furnace oil in their diesels but I would not do so in a newer engine. Heck my tractor is a 2000 model year and I would not run 100% furnace oil in the tractor.:laughing::laughing:

Did you filter the fuel before use? I might have dirt, bacteria, and/or water in the fuel. We got a fuel tank for free and it has 20 or so gallons of "fuel" in it. No way in heck would I used it in an engine. I will use it on the burn piles.

Later,
Dan

It would be a coincidence, but check your air intake for obstruction if not already done....

For the fuel, if it's a large amount, you might want to get it tested (Cat, Finning etc.) to see what's in it.

Bulk tanks can end up with crazy stuff dumped in them.

The fuel looked and smelled fine and gave the donor no issues with their Kubota tractor or 100KW genset.

Here, the farm fuel comes in the same tank on the truck as furnace oil, just taxed differently.

I will check the air filter.
