we have an old international track loader with a diesel engine. it starts on gasoline and when its warmed up it switches to gasoline. its not a pony motor, its a 4 cylinder with a carborator for the gas and injectors for the diesel fuel. i would like to know what type of engine this is and where i could start looking for a repair manual.

the IH farmall MD's started the same way. you might troll the vintage IH forums and find a answer.

I ran an old Galion grader with the same set-up. Pretty simple deal, get it running, let it get good and warm then throw the lever and it would switch to diesel. If you stalled it, much like the old JD's that would start on gas and run on kero, it could be a bear to start. Have to get the gas back into the carb to get it to fire.

Good luck with it!

I ran a D-9 Dozer for two weeks in the ARMY back in 1971. It had the gas/diesel engine. When I pulled that knob out it was like I switched engines!! It had a 12' blade and it sure could push.
One morning I forgot to pull the knob and tried to push on gas. It would not get out of it's own way.

There was one on the ranch I used to work at. I was the ranch mechanic and had to keep it going. I think it was a TD9 or TD18 International crawler.

Fun engine that started on gas with an electric starter and then, when warm switched to diesel. It would not start on diesel under any circumstances. One day I tested the theory by waiting till it was hot from working in the fields on a very hot day. I went over and shut it down and tried to restart it on diesel. No go. Gas only on start no matter how hot the weather and how hot the machine.

It actualy seems like a good idea because it does away with the pony motor and will start in cold weather.

I remember one day it was missing while running on gas. The ranch manager came over and began touching the spark plugs to tell me which one it was. Made him jump a bit and he had thick skin on his hands, but I never tried it. Been there done that.
