Oil & Fuel ?? Diesel Mixed with my Oil ??

Hello,

I have a John Deere 1020 diesel. I checked the oil yesterday and it is showing 8qts and there is diesel in it. It also just started idling fast and slow by itself and has a miss. This is my first tractor so I would appreciate any information/advice you may have to offer. Also any suggestions where to take it for repairs? I'm in the Crossville, TN area.

My old 4020 had diesel mixing with the oil, but I don't remember the idle. To fix mine, the lifter pump had to be replaced. My lifter pump was mounted to the engine I think on the right side (if your sitting in the seat hands on the wheel) towards the bear of the motor. It also has a manual pump lever on the bottom side just in case you ever run it out of fuel. I'm sure someone will correct me very shortly if I am wrong. The 1020 and the 4020 had different motors, but are similiar. Another way to find it is follow the fuel line coming out of the bottom of your fuel tank, and it is directly connected to your lifter pump. Good luck!!

If it's fuel in crankcase then the lift pump or the seals on inj pump are leaking. Change in engine speed is controlled by the govenor in the inj pump which indicates inj pump may need repaired.

FYI early 1020's had a powersteering pump mounted to frt of engine so be sure oil level rise isn't hyd oil instead of diesel.

if you pull your oil dipstick and let it drip on a clean white rag does it bulls eye on the rag if it does probably a leaking injector
