diesel price vs. gas

They were off the US market for quite a while. The increased hp is not the sole cause for the reduced mileage. Most of it was caused by the diesel emission regs.

Correct, a few years if I recall, I was interested in one. And unless I'm missing it, I still don't see the TDI option or price on the vw.com web site. They talk about it, but says see your dealer. Probably real expensive.

Jetta TDI Clean Diesel

I don't like the website. Its hard to find things aka miss things that is for sure. They site seems to be pushing real hard to get Thy To Thy Dealer. I found this, Jetta SportWagen - Price List. They don't seem to break down the engine price.

The VW site has links, banners, this that and the other toughting the TDI. Which is cool. They had links and banners all over the place. But not easy to find a model with the TDI AND a price. The mpg was listed at 44 mpg on one page.

I had to check the website because I would have sworn I heard radio ads from the VW dealers about getting a TDI. Yesterday morning there was a white VW bug in front of me. She had written in black on the back of the car that it was getting either 49.9 or 49.9mpg. I did not see a TDI badge but I sure was looking. Now I KNOW my eyes are bad so I might have missed it. There was one corner of the car the was dirty. The dirt looked like diesel soot.

I was checking commodity prices in the WSJ this am. Curious what the corn prices were going for after all of the ups and down this year. 5.30 a bushel. Noticed that ULSD was going for a bit of $2 a gallon. LSD fuel was 2.80ish. Fuel oil I think was over $3.

I mentioned I found your first link, talk is talk, Have to admit I didn't scope out a wagon. But just now I clicked on the beetle, passat, and rabbit and did not see the engine listed like on the jetta wagon. It shouldn't be that hard to fine. Maybe IE8 is blocking it?? I think I have seen a couple beetles on the road with the TDI, pre emmission motors. I just don't get the fake flower either!!

Still crappy web site. Slow to load. They need to take a look at the big 3 sites, very simple to build a car there IMO.

I believe they were restricted to certain states as well. Some of the Northeast states mirror everything California does with CARB and they had some insane Diesel regs that nobody could meet, effectively banning them for cars in those states.

The thing I wonder about with this waste veggie oil is that there just isn't that much of it to begin with... I'm sure there are plenty of people driving around to the restaurants asking for waste oil to feed their home biodiesel plants. If enough people are asking, they will start charging for it. It is a pretty limited supply of fuel. There's no way I can see using virgin veggie oil, either, given how expensive it is.

It might be IE, I used Firefox but the website stinks. Not sure IE can be blamed. I don't get the flower either. I see a bug from time to time driving to work. She usually passes me. And it seems the Bug is usually driven by a women, might be the flower thing again. I always chuckle when I see the bug go by with a flower.

Actually IE8 Beta 2 has a compatibility mode button, works good but I'm still testing.

Ok I might offend some guys here but, new Bug, Smart Car, equal chicks car. Diesel or not!! There I said it!

Wednesday driving home the station I check for fuel had all pumps working. Stopped for some fast food and the lady working mentioned that stations in town were all out of gas. I told her the stations east of town had fuel. But that is 10 miles away.

Thursday, I needed fuel. Bad. So I stopped. Well, I did not stop I just drove on through since the pumps where empty. Check the station across the highway. Same story. No diesel and only one grade of gas. Head on home. There is one more station on the way and he did have diesel. He must have just gotten a shipment because you could see where they had ripped the empty notices off the pumps.

We have a 285 gallon fuel tank we have been trying to pick up all summer. I'll be glad when we are able to go get that tank and get it filled up.

The diesel I bought was 4.04. Premium was 4.05. First time Diesel has been cheaper than premium in a very long time.

The last time I bought diesel was on 6/6/8.
The fuel guy brought me 60 gallons of the red stuff for $4.02 per gallon.
I still have 15 gallon of it left.
Looks like that might last me throught the winter.
The thing is it's summer diesel.
Hopefully I can still run it this winter.
I did treat it with 16 oz of PS in rhe white bottle when they delivered it.
