Diesel Truck battery Life?

I just realized my 07 GMC Duramax is still on the factory batteries. No problems as of yet. While I seldom use the truck anymore, I want to plan for replacements. If I went to a gm replacement can I expect the same life.

You have gotten exceptional life from the original batteries. I would not expect exceptional life from the same brand. You may get lucky again, but I would not expect it.

Yep, you got lucky - this time. Don't get used to it!

Generally, I get 3-5 years from mine. (about the same as the batteries on anything else) Occasionally, you have a "freak" either way. I recently replaced the battery on my Ford 2600 tractor. It was a Continental that was almost 10 years old. On the other end of the scale, my F-250 had 3 sets of (Autozone) batteries in less than 2 years. Just bad batteries. (each time one battery had a dead cell) That's been about 4 years ago, and I haven't had to change them since.

Any lead-acid battery does best if it's used often. Years ago, there was an old man in Shreveport, LA that had a small battery manufacturing shop. He warranted all of his batteries for 2 years. He told me that his best customers were the local taxi cab companies. They NEVER brought a battery back for warranty replacement. OTOH, his "worst" customers were the little old ladies that only started their car once a week.

I have learned over 27 vehicles plus boats, atv's, lawn mowers, teactors, ect and 41 years of driving no matter what it is its less frustrating and cheaper in the long run to replace batteries at 36 months.

In my part of the world it's 100 degrees then minus 20. It's just tough on them.

You did well getting the life out of your current batteries.From what I have researched 3-5 years max for battery life until they should be replaced.I live in a cold climate and have a trickle charger on my equipment in the cold months.I replaced the battery in my(diesel) 2006 Kubota RTV 900 last year with a deka battery.I could tell it was starting to crank longer on startup.

I just replaced both batts on my 2011 6.7 Super Duty because 1 went bad. So I replaced both in pairs. Got almost 4 years out of them. I kept good one and traded in a junk batt I found on side of road as one of the cores.
On the other hand my 2007 Bota L3400 is still running on original battery. So if it goes south soon I'll put in the Super Duty good battery if it fits (haven't looked).

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra Pickup, bought brand new, just the regular cab, LWB, 2wd, bare bones, work truck. It still has original AC Delco Battery In it. You can tell this year that the battery sounds just a little sluggish when it hasn't been run in several weeks but it has never failed to crank yet.

So there are no really good batteries anymore? I only have 55k miles on the truck now, how cant I tell if the batteries are weak other than slow cranking ot dead?
