Why do you think the oil companies are pushing for the Keystone pipeline? It's certainly not to lower prices fuel in this country. It's to get the oil to a good location so they can ship it overseas.

Yup, cheaper to go the flat route south than west over the Rockies.

Glad we agree there, as that's really the point.
Absolutely! We're all friends here.

That depends on how you look at it. If the revenue required to fund expenses is fixed, one person/corporation paying less means another pays more.

But that has never actually been the case. In the ideal world, yes. But since the gov't borrows and prints almost 1/2 of what they spend, a dollar I don't pay never means you have to pay another dollar. And even if you did pay that other dollar, we didn't fix anything because out gov't's infinite wisdom is that we gained another dollar and so it must also be spent, not that we finally got the last dollar needed for a given expense.

I dont like paying for it either but this country was built on free enterprise. If the oil companies can make a profit so be it. They are in business to make money just like everyone else. They charge what the market will bear.

Profit margins are just that. People want to complain about xyz company making 10% profit. It is what it is. I personally try to make all the profit I can also. Banks, oil companies, hospitals, ect charge what they can and who can blame them, you would also if you had the ability.

Chris

The point of my previous post was that it isn't "free enterprise" when the price is manipulated. That's what I don't like.

That's one way to look at it, but... If the government is going to spend what it wants regardless of revenue collected, then a dollar not collected still raises the deficit and the debt by a dollar. Since the only ones around to pay off the deficit are you and I, it's still a dollar out of our (collective) pocket!

It doesn't matter where the oil is shipped. Oil is a global commodity so any increase in supply drives down prices globally.

What a lot of people don't realize is that the Federal government, via taxes, makes far, far more on a gallon of fuel than the companies who produced it.

Where was all of the concern for the oil companies in the 1980's when they were going broke?

If you don't think the benefits of fossil fuels are worth the price you pay then quit buying them, it really is that simple.

You obviously aren't from NC. Taxes here on a gal are .38 cents - MORE than double what the Fed is charging.

Sadly, since we don't explore our own natural resources, are dependent on other nations for our oil, AND print money like we're hired, everything will continue to go up.

Our economy is basically on life support.
I don't think you understand how the system works now. Everything we have is on the world market now. Drill all you want but it all goes on the world market. That includes food and every other resource we have. Third world countries have money now since they have our jobs. World population is growing 800 million or a little more per year. That number will soon be 1 billion per year. They will eat and drive too. Get use to it cause it'll only get worse.

That is another good reason to keep our oil where it is and use somebody elses oil.

There is absolutely no logical reason for the pipe line not to be built.

The USA gave Brazil BILLION of dollars to drill for oil so we could BUT THAT OIL from them.

The U.S. is providing hundreds of millions of dollars of foreign aid to some of the world's richest countries - while at the same time borrowing billions back, according to report seen by Congress.

The Congressional Research Service released the report last month which shows that in 2010 the U.S. handed out a total of $1.4bn to 16 foreign countries that held at least $10bn in Treasury securities.

Four countries in the world's top 10 richest received foreign aid last year with China receiving $27.2m, India $126.6m, Brazil $25m, and Russia $71.5m.

Bankrupt US gives Brazilian oil company 2 billion dollars

This is Ridiculous, but it proves that ridiculous people do ridiculous things.

You wouldn稚 have seen/DIDN探 see this on ABC, NBC, CBS, or MSNBC.

On a segment of the "Glen Beck Show" on FOX (Fox Cable News) was the following:

"Today, even though President Obama is against off shore drilling for our country, he signed an executive order to loan 2 Billion of our taxpayers dollars to a Brazilian Oil Exploration Company (which is the 8th largest company in the entire world) to drill for oil off the coast of Brazil! The oil that comes from this operation is for the sole purpose and use of China and NOT THE USA! Now here's the real clincher...the Chinese government is under contract to purchase all the oil that this oil field will produce, which is hundreds of millions of barrels of oil".

We have absolutely no gain from this transaction whatsoever!

Wait, it gets more interesting.

Guess who is the largest individual stockholder of this Brazilian Oil Company and who would benefit most from this? It is American BILLIONAIRE, George Soros, who was one of President Obama's most generous financial supporter during his campaign.

If you are able to connect the dots and follow the money, you are probably as upset as I am. Not a word of this transaction was broadcast on any of the other news networks!

Forward this factual e-mail to others who care about this country and where it is going. Also, let all of your Government representatives know how you feel about this.

Below is the Wall street Journal article to confirm this.
