I have a 2004 L2800. The weight of the backhoe caused the rear differential case to break. We went to the dealer and found out this isn't an isolated case. Dealer said that he's asked Kubota in the past and they have refused to help with the cost of fixing it.

Sounds like a design flaw to me. Seems like the backhoe should be attached to something sturdy like the frame, not the casing (especially given that the casing is only 3/8-inch thick).

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen, or has heard of it happening. I'd like to have a few cases before calling the Kubota people. Also, maybe John Deere would be interested in some pics =) Any suggestions?

If you can post some pictures that show where your crack occurred.
I have seen top link castings broken out of larger Kubota tractors. KennyV.

I am presuming that this is a 3PT attached backhoe? There have been other threads regarding this sort of thing. Believe that there is a reinforcement for the top link.

Overall though a backhoe puts a lot of stress on the rear end of a little tractor and the consensus here is that it really should be sub-frame attached.

Regardless, I would expect the dealer who sold you the setup to make it right.

Sorry but you can't find that problem here with BH-75's, we haven't had any break, what make backhoe do you have on your tractor? How many hours? What are you digging in?

Was it a 3pt attachment or frame mount? Did the dealer add the top link support that is MANDATORY with backhoes?

There isn't a design flaw, if you don't follow the design requirements. By the way, 3/8" is about the thickness of the casting on my industrial tractor.

John has it right. If your dealer did not include the heavy duty top link bracket as part of the BH. I would consider your dealer, not Kubota to be at fault.

Thanks for all of your postings. Harvest Moon's link to the other discussion thread was very helpful. We wrote to Kubota and will be talking to the dealer about why it was sold to us without the correct assembly. Apparently it sounds like there definitely should have been extra supports of some sort.

I have attached a couple pictures of the break...
