Does anyone know when the diff lock is actually engaged? The pedal seems to go down to a certian point with some resistance and at other times it will go down a little further with less resistance. Also manual says to slow engine speed before engaging. Any reason why? As long as the wheels (wheel) is not spining at a high rate of speed when engaging I can not see why engine speed would matter.

Thanks for any input.

You can usually feel when it "locks" in at which point the foot lever will go all the way to the floor. The lock mechanism operates using a shift fork and needs the differential side gears to be lined up before the locking bar can lock both sides together. This is why the say engage when the WHEEL is not spinning at a high rate (not the engine). One wheel at rest or near rest and the other wheel spinning fast will in most situations damage the differential unit.

Thanks for the response. What you said is what I suspected, that when pedal is all the way down diff is locked just wasn't sure if it was still somehow operating when pedal was partially depressed. Still don't understand wording in manual about slowing engine speed. It would seem a little ridiculous to be constantly lowering engine speed every time you want to engage the diff, but maybe there is a reason???

P.S. Nice to hear from a local. Live in Jackson just south of West Bend.

Yeah the Japanese to English translations in the manuals leave a lot to be desired so don't take everything word for word. I work in Mequon which is real close to you. Enjoy your BX.

I don't know if mine is working. It seems that there is no difference when the pedal is pushed. Is there a simple test to perform to verify the condition of the Differential lock operation? thanks...
