Greetings all, from a new guy on the block. I have a Ford 1210 4wd with about 2000 hours. This is the smallest of my tractor fleet, but clearly the most versatile and valuable for my puposes (I'm a christmas tree grower). When I bought it about 15 yrs ago the differential lock worked just fine, but for the past several years it hasn't worked at all. I suspect it has broken due to my activating it at too fast a speed too often. Fortunately it is not necessary for most of my work, but it sure would be handy to have back in operation.
With rare exception, I do all my own repairs, using an I&T repair manual. In studying the schematic of the differential for this tractor, I suspect some of the linkage inside the diff has separated or broken. If I remove the lift arm housing, will I be able to see enough of the diff lock assembly to determine the problem? If we go with the broken linkage theory, is this something fixable without complete diff disassembly?
