I would appreciate all suggestions to make this job easier, I am thinking use the middle buster to dig them up, then sift with expanded metal screen.
What I would like is a planter that would go on my 2910 and let me drive over the fresh prepaired area and plant the bulbs while I sit in the drivers seat and watch.
When I did a search for "daffodil planter" I got all kinds of pots, tubs containers....
Thanks to all suggestions.

Do you really need to dig up the old bulbs? Many people just leave them to "naturalize", and don't ever pull them up.

For new plantings, excavate off the dirt to the depth to plant the bulbs, lay the bulbs out (with bone meal, fungicide and moth crystals to keep the squirrels out) and backfill with the topsoil.

Gotrocks--I see a lot of manual labor-of-love in your future--although if you have soil which you can sift through a sieve, you sure don't live in my clay-laden neck of the woods! The middle buster will beat up a lot of bulbs, which is not necessarily a big deal. However you get them out of the ground, separating them is a manual chore because they need to be broken apart. I may be wrong, but I don't think you'll find a three-point daffodil planter out there. I use a bulb auger on a drill, corded if possible, and if the CFO is following along sticking the bulbs and booster in we can drill in about 100-150 an hour. If you want to plant them in rows you could open up a row with The good news about daffodils is that nothing eats them (they are highly poisonous), and in five years you'll have 5,000.

Thanks for the input Rick. Actually we already have about 5000 daffodils, we (CFO) transplanted about 500 along with over 100 August lilies (some folks call them Spider lilies, other call them Surprise lilies) back in December. My fantastic wife's favorites are daffodils and since we found out she has cancer in Feb I have been wanting to re-arrange a couple of large areas. I like the idea of a drill. For some reason it had not occured to me even though I have used a large bit to fertilize my pecan trees on several occasions. (where the cord would reach) but now with the cordless drills I'll give it a try.
I really like the waterfall on you page, would love to have the creek in my back yard. Well this is getting a little long winded so thanks again for you post.

We dug up about 500 dafodils last year by using my FEL to dig-up and turn the soil over. We just went thru the soil by hand and seperated many of the bulb clusters. Gosh knows how many we ended up with.... probably 750. We re-planted them in a roto-tilled bed.

I like idea of using a drill for planting. My CFO has got some additional planting plans for the fall.
