I'm about to purchase either a Kioti CK20 or a Mahindra 2810. I'll be getting a FEL w/toothbar. Probably a stupid question, but how long should it take to dig a 10' x 15' hole 3 to 4 feet deep? Doesn't have to be pretty, I'm just burying some concrete and other debris.

To dig a hole like that with just a FEL and toothbar is going to take a long time. If it were me, I'd use a box blade for that purpose. And how long it will take depends on how hard the ground is and how fast you work.

I dug a small pond last summer with my fel (about 20 x 40) about 3 feet deep and it only took about 4 hours. It was in hard clay and I have a toothbar. I also spent some of that time using my backhoe to shape the edges.

It can be done, but like Bird sez, how long it takes depends on a whole lot o' things.

If you have a few minutes, you can read about a similar project I did a few years ago. Pictures included. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Seemed Like Such A Simple Project

Note: I don't have a toothbar. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm not familiar with the tractors you mentioned, but I dug a small pit about like you described a few weeks ago when the ground was hard and dry in about a half hour to an hour. I had a burn pile with a lot of nails that I wanted to bury. My bucket is 72", and my hole was two buckets width. Several factors will enter into how long it takes... how hard the ground is, the size of the tractor/FEL, etc. Shouldn't be that big of a job. The tooth bar will really improve digging capability.

Harv, that's a hilarious story. That's just the kind of thing I'm looking forward to doing with mine (whichever it ends up being). One of the first things I'm planning on doing is smoothing out some land for my two little guys' first dirt bikes they're getting for Christmas this year.

A perfect excuse, I mean reason, to use your tractor.

Don't forget to take pictures. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

On my farm I might never be able to dig a hole that big with a front end loader and my tractors are much larger than what you're talking about. A backhoe would be required because of the number, size and how the rocks are packed. Front end loaders aren't really meant for digging as their name states, there for loading material that is already dug and piled up. Obviously you can use a tool for a job that it's not really intended for, it may do it or it may not, it will just take longer.

Just my opinion .
