Digging footing holes - Advice needed

/ Digging footing holes - Advice needed #11
i dug a 42" deep 12" hole for the 21' power pole i set.

IT was easy digging through the first 2' of IL topsoil.... then a 18" of clay that got progessively harder the deeper i went. (hardpan)

only took me about 45 min to dig the hole with a set of clamshells.

if your dirt is easy digging i would expect the same for 3' deep 18" holes

by the time you go to the rental place, and return to the rental place, you could have dug them by hand and saved the $300

Personally id use the project to justify a PHD with 12" auger to get me 90% there in about 2 min. and finish them by hand.
