I think I understand but: Is the digging depth rating on a loader mean "at a time" or " that is all she will do"?

ex: 3" digging depth.

The digging depth is the distance that the bucket, in "flat" position, can be lowered below grade. It is shown as "G" in the illustration. Spec'd at 7.9" for my LB400 loader.

I think it means that the loader bucket, when level, can be 3" lower than the surface the wheels are on. It's just a way to describe the range of motion of the FEL arms. With the bucket curled down, it'll go a lot deeper.
