I have a 1982 Digit Model 198T that will not drive forward or backward unless you jam on the brake - it moves slowly. Now rolls freely if pushed and all other hydraulics are working fine. Any ideas?

Wish I could help you. I have no idea if your machine has a hydrostat trans or simply independent wheel motors like my model 258 backhoe? I would say that if it has a hyro trans, you may have an issue with the swash plate. Slamming on the brakes ( I ASSUME) would put the swash plate in a neutral position, the forward/reverse would tilt the plate in varying degrees of opposing angles for chosen motion ( F or R) and speed. If you ar saying that was once the problem and now it only rolls freely ( like in neutral )..maybe it's a relif valve stuck open?
