Oil & Fuel Dipstick

Changed my oil and filter for the first time on my TC30. Filter was so tight I drove a screwdriver thru it to remove it. In doing so I moved the oil pan dipstick tube without knowing it. After starting it and letting it run I had an oil leak which I thought was the aftermarket Wix filter. Upon close inspection the dipstick wouldn't seal in the tube and oil will leak if the dipstick isn't fully inserted into the tube. Learn something everyday luckily it only cost me a quart of oil.

I think its normal that the factories have a 600# gorilla installing their oil filters. Either that or they put blue locktite on the rubber gasket. Or both.

Those dipsticks break easily too if you let them kink even slightly while putting them back into the tube.

I used the screw driver method as a kid on one of my 350 chevy motors. The web type made out of seat belt material is the only type I use for everything now. You might crush a large hyd. filter but no damage done and with a 1/2 inch breaker bar you know it is going to come off.

Every new car I have owned the filter was on very tight. Ended up buying a wrench like this Performance Tool W54310 - Filter Wrench | O'Reilly Auto Parts

This is one of the reasons I now take my vehicles back to the dealer for the first oil/filter change. I've found that both the filter and the drain plug are generally way over tight.

I had to use a chain wrench one time on the worst oil filter I ever had to remove. It was so tight the housing was falling apart. Normally I use the chain wrench to hold a lolly column still to cut them, that is an incredible amount of torque.

Been sticking filters for 30 years at least..... Kills 2 birds with one stone...... You stick it so it drains and you stick a screwdriver through it as a lever to get it off.....

All my used filters hav 2 puncture holes in them.......
