Was on my way into town and the State was cleaning out the road ditch less than a mile from me.
Stopped and told them I had a place to dump the dirt if they needed one.
They just left here after dumping the second load.
Nothing like free dirt when you have a tractor !

They call that ditch spoils around here, and used to use that dirt to cover the daily deposits at the local dump. EPA came in and tested the dirt over a long period of time and determined that it wasn't up to their standards for clean cover, so they had to quit using it. In a discussion about a low piece of property nearby, one of the neighbors that works for the city said he could get enough of that to fill it up to the level of my property. That would be about 30 to 60 foot of fill, and it is almost thirty acres, so that would be a lot of dirt. I asked him how I could get some and he said I would have to go thru the channels. Not exactly the answer I was hoping for, dealing with the city and it's red tape.

I did the same thing a few years back got about 4 loads from the town when they were cleaning ditches, Just be ADVISED that the dirt will be full of all kinds of stuff, glass, blacktop chunks, concret and all kinds of stuff. great for fill but will need to be covered with good dirt if used in groomed area.

I got 3 loads of it the other day and didn't pay a cent so how is that not cheap?
