I am looking for a ~7' foot disc to disc a badly rutted grass pasture. I have a Kubota 2WD geared L4600 tractor and the pasture is sandy so I am probably traction limited with HP to spare. I am in East Texas FWIW.

I can't find anything reasonable locally so I am looking online at the Dirt Dog MB-300 and Everything Attachments XTreme box frame disc. What other brands and models should I consider?

Does anyone have first hand experience with either or both of these? Which is better or what features are better or worse? Am I missing another brand/model or 'good buy' in a good heavy disc?

TIA,
Sid

Give me a couple weeks and I'll tell ya about the ETA 24/20 I got sitting on my trailer.

If I remember I looked at the dirt dog a while back and likes its construction other have liked Monroe Tufline.

You might look into some wheel weights or fill your tires if not already.

Here is my thread on Tandem Disc Harrow selection: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/308251-disc-harrow-selection-18-45-a.html?highlight=

Tandem Disc Harrows are secondary tillage implements.

You will need someone to plow your hard pasture before you can obtain satisfactory results with any Disc Harrow your 2-WD Kubota L4600 will pull.

You may need a Box Blade to begin the smoothing process after the plow and before discing.

The first pass with a Disc Harrow is not a problem. Succeeding passes in the increasingly tilled soft ground let the Disc Harrow sink/penetrate deeper and deeper, increasing draft force resistance therefore making traction more of an issue with each pass.

If you had 4-WD I would recommend a Disc Harrow with 9" spacing between pans. However, with 2-WD you may want a Disc Harrow with 7-1/2" pan spacing for additional implement "float" pulling over your sandy soil.

You will want to adjust the gang angles more often than someone pulling with 4-WD so I would consider a Disc Harrow with enchanted adjustability. (Temporarily blocked due to reports of company closure) screw adjustment is the easiest/fastest to adjust. Clamp Plate adjustment is the slowest yet most common form of gang angle adjustment. (Some members with uniform soil never change gang angles.)

I cannot help too much more. Your choice may be either 18" diameter pans with the implement as wide as your outside tire width or 20" diameter pans with the implement significantly narrower than outside width of your tires. Consult with RICK at ETA; he spends 40 hours per week matching implements to tractors.

I have no personal experience with Dirt Dog implements. I have been considering a 66" Dirt Dog 'All Purpose Plow' for vine root removal, for awhile.

Tandem Disc Harrows are pretty generic. Nothing wrong with used if features you need are there.

I am anticipating C4RANCH's ETA Disc Harrow review.

GOOD LUCK!

If anyone is looking for a monroe tufline dealer, you can also stop in at any Deere dealer.

King Kutter makes two decent ones, an angle-iron for $ and a box frame for $$. I'm sure Tarter probably has their own, if that's what your TSC carries.

Well I only had a little time to play with it. Not quite a full review yet.

Unloading. Everyone likes a pallet fork pic. I could feel it for sure.

After one pass. I think my tilt cylinder needed to be shortened a little.

Here is a comparison of one pass (on the right) vs two passes (on the left) it did so well on the first pass you really couldn't see much difference.

Seemed to work very well for my setup tractor handled it beautifully.

Very nice. Looks like it did a great job. Looks like you have good sandy loam soil, and I'm sure that helps.

I wonder if ETA offers the option of a smaller diameter outside disc to reduce the furrowing that the full size outside disc causes.

Yeah, that might help. On my first pass I had the side link in float so it dug too much on one side as the ground was sloped.
It could be I pulled my rear gangs out too far or maybe I had it angled too much.
Need to spend more time with it.
