dirt spray under the hood.

I looked under the hood of my TC33D last night and noticed lots of small dirt specs or soot in the engine compartment. It looked like maybe it was coming from the exhaust. My TC33D has 150 flawless hrs on it so far. Is this dirt spray normal for a diesel? Do you guys try to clean this? Also the dealer did the 50 hr service but I plan on doing this oil change. Any recommendations on the kind of oil to use? Anyone using synthetic. I like to use synthetic on all my cars. Thanks

Mine does it to. Looks to me like it is caused by weed debris, seeds, etc being slung by the fan blade. This junk gets on the fan blade, the hood and side covers and any thing else in line of the fan blade. I use a pressure washer to get it off.
I used NH 15W-40 for my 50hr change. May use synthetic after engine is good and broken in.

My TC33D looks like it is spraying hydraulic fluid out of the cap on the power steering.

I agree with the 2thdoc. Its coming from things being slung by the fan. Mine is the same way. A can of "Gunk" engine cleaner and a light duty pressure washer does the trick. Don't use a high pressure (2400 psi) washer though as it tends to take the paint right off of things.

I use to use "GUNK" but have found that the "Simple Green Degreaser" to work much better and is much nicer to work with. Just spray it on and pressure wash it off.....Smells good too!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
