a couple of days ago I posted a request for some help with several things I need information on. (see YM 2700 new owner) So far I have only one reply and 116 viewer occasions. Only Len has replied with information on manuals and parts. thank you Len I will call you tomorrow and order manuals. Meanwhile I have been reading previous posts and some of my questions were answered. Today I bought a 4' box blade and a 5' Howse rear discharge finish mower. I still need help on selecting a front loader and most of all suggestions on preoperation checks and maintenance before I start cutting grass this weekend. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Marc.

First off let me say I apologize for not offering any advice but I have never had a YM2700 so I avoided posting. The closest to a 2700 I have had was a few YM2200's. I would have went with a 5 foot landscape box on that tractor. You have the hp to pull it and would be closer to cover your wheel tracks. As for a loader you may want to look into Koyker. Koyker makes a lot of loaders for Yanmars, but this one might be an exception. The YM2700 was only made in a 2 wheel drive version and since most loaders installed on compact tractors are installed on those that are 4 wheel drive it may be that Koyker has not designed a mounting bracket kit for the 2700. I have never seen a loader on a 2700 myself. That is not to say that it has never been done before. As for pre-operation, check the engine oil, check the oil in the oil-bath air filter, and hydraulic fluid. Good luck with the tractor.

Brent,
Thanks for info. having never owned a tractor I'm just concerned that there was some special fluid, oil or grease that I need to attend to prior to spending the hours to cut 8 acres of grass Saturday. Regarding the horsepower, I have no manual or other information about the tractor so I don't know the horsepower or any other specifications, I juist bought it Saturday. I'm going to order manuals tomorrow and maybe that will solve most of my problems.
Thanks again, Marc.

The PTO hp of your tractor is 27 with the engine hp being around 30-31.

Marc, I defiantly was not ignoring you but for us dealers this is the busiest time of year and I don’t have a lot of time to post. Also it is greatly frowned upon by the moderators if we try to sell on this board so I don’t offer filters or manuals anymore or loaders.... If you would like to talk about tractor maintenance please call anytime, I would be glad to help, late evenings are always the best time.

Also sat on the sideline expecting another 2700 owner to pipe in, but don't forget to grease every zerk you can find. I don't think any one is more critical than any other, but fresh grease won't hurt anything. Check oil, coolant and transmission. Don't know if the mowere deck is new to you, but I have found that it is more critical to grease than the tractor.

Many people can help you with particular questions, especially maintenance. Parts for a relatively unusual tractor and parts information may be more difficult. First get the japanese parts manual-although written in japanese, you can get the part number from the diagram and index which is in Arabic numbers. From there, several members of the board can help you get parts. Second, often there is an American model that is similar and you can get repair and parts manuals for that model. If the part is of the same number as a US model, then Yanmar's US dealers can get it for you (although you may not want to tell the dealer that it is for a grey market tractor). Many parts are identical from tractor to tractor so even though you have an unusual model, the part may not be unusual. Most JD dealers will look at you as if you are a criminal and will refuse to help with parts, but some do help. Yanmar does make engines for JD and in the past even, apparently, made entire tractors. If a JD part number is the same (i.e. if the engine is the same as in a JD) then a JD dealer may be able to order the part. Oil filters have cross overs to automotive units that can be bought at local auto parts store. Oil is for diesels. Most tractors use JD 303 hydraulic fluid. If the current filter is japanese, often you can go to the web site of Fram, Purolator, etc and the web site can cross it over for you. No one knows whether these filters are better, worse or the same as the yanmars, but generally automotive filters have better particulate filetering capacity. I guess you could get original yanmar filters, but they cost quite a bit more. Seals, if you can't find them often can be bought by removing the old one and taking it to an auto parts store.

Len Sheaffer has or can get you most any parts you may need. I have bought manuals from him also. He knows his stuff.

Marc, I'm not saying that this is the case for sure but sometimes people get a little tired of answering familiar questions repeatedly. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I believe one reason that the Yanmar Group was moved here is because of the great archiving and the ability to search through the old messages. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif You might find that it is worth your while to get the Operations Manual for the nearest US model. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Also it is sometimes a good thing if people don't speak up if they don't actually know the answer./forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Keep us posted on how it goes.
