Newbie at discing.

Have a tandem 7' disc but missing the cylinder to put the transport wheels down and do not have hydraulics in the rear anyway, and yes know about the ratcheting cylinders, just have not had the time to get one.

Question i have. Does the disc have to be attached to the tow bar or can i hook it up to the draw bar (lift arms) and fudge thru that way (lift enough to turn a corner at the end of the field)? I figure if the arms will not lift it then it is overrunning the hydraulics for the arms. But do not want to break anything by pulling too hard on the lift arms and breaking them or the drawbar. I am aware of weight to keep the front wheels on the ground.

Have looked at the other threads and this particular question does not appear to be addressed. Also this disc is not a 3pt, just a 1 pt.

Yes, you could move it that way. The rear discs will stay on the ground and still turn. Probably won't hurt anything unless moving a long distance. You won't hurt the 3 pt moving it that way. I cheap and quick way to get rear hydraulics is unhook the hydraulics on you joystick outlet going to the FEL bucket. Get a hydraulic cylinder and hoses for the disc and attach the hoses to the joystick outlet. Raise up the disc and go. You could even use the disc permanently that way.

Thanks radman, and there probably come a day when that will happen and need to discuss if need to remove the FEL to do that or just 2 of the hoses. For now have full access to a disk BUT do not own it and have a 5 acre pasture that needs to be done, so did not want to sink a lot of $ into into it. Owner willing to pop for diesel, seed, and equipment, but not fix up. Long story.

Will try and get to it on Tues when off from the 'paying' job and post how it goes. Will dry up a little by then as well.

You don't need to remove the FEL. I have a 5300 with FEL that runs off the 2 rear remotes. I just disconnect the hoses for the bucket when I need to use the rear outlets for something else. I don't even remove the bucket and can easily reconnect the hoses. The same with your joystick outlets.

Thanks to all who answered the call, including past posts.

Hooked the disc up to the drawbar and lifted the front half up enough to get it out of the mud. Water had welled up in the tractor tracks when got it in there last week.

Went round and round for about 3 hours and then was on low for fuel and gave it up. Could not get back out in the rain, so the field is sitting about 2/3 disced. Overlapped each round by about a half. Does not look half bad. Had the drawbar arms on 'float' so took off the humps and filled some of the valleys.

The rocks make a nice tune on the discs but did not see any broken ones. Tractor would do about 3.8 wide open, in B range, with cruise control on.

Once again, thanks one and all.
