I am person with no experience in farming that is looking at purchasing the 8 disc as shown on the attached photographs. I plan to use the disc to break up grown over fields so that I can plant food plots for deer. I would like to know if the disc would be suitable for this use. In addition, does the disc have internal bearing?

That will work. I have a friend that has a disk alot like yours. He pulls it with his 4 wheeler. The disk looks like it has spool bearings that require a good high temperature grease. And don't be stingy with the grease and grease it everytime you use it. You may have to add some more weight to break new ground. If you are trying to break ground with a lot of grass try to cut it down before you try to disk it. Good luck on your food plots.

I........ the 8 disc as shown on the attached photographs. ............

Are you saying it has 8 blades or it is 8' ??

Should work well for food plots, but as mentioned, may need some tender care (and maybe something like a sub-soiler to break up the hard ground first). I'd buy it in a hearbeat. Looks like adapting it to a 3 ph attachment would work too.

The disc has 8 blades and is 6 feet wide. My property consists of lots of willows, some popular and selected smaller open meadows which are only accessible by trails I have cut with my brush cutter. It is my plan to locate 1-2 acre food plots on the meadows. Hopefully, this will allow me to break up the land.

I didn't check to see if it had grease nipples. Hopefully it does so that I can get things moving. I don't think the disc has been used for 10 -1 5 years.

I believe if you plan to use ONLY the disc to turn grown over fields into a different vegetation type, be it food plots, crops, turf, etc, without plowing, tilling or herbicide application you will be disappointed. You need to eradicate the existing vegetation to eliminate competition and prepare a seed bed hospitable to the establishment of your deisred crop,

I think forester2 is correct. You'll be working well established ground and might want to consider turning it first. I've heard of others just discing and planting with limited results. Most companies that sell the "specialty" seed that lean toward a certain species of wildlife will have recommendations for prepairing the soil prior to planting.

Those pics make it hard to see what you have here....but it sure looks like a good ole pull-type disc....likely made in the 50's (?). It appears that there are some blade scrapers on the back and notched blades which should help cut up trash.

I'd bet it has multiple grease zerks......as I they didn't make many sealed bearing units in this vintage. From what I can see it looks to be well made....and somebody weighted it down pretty good with those rocks. I doubt you can pull it with a four-wheeler with that weight on it.....unless its a pretty good wheeler.

Hopefully the rust didn't get to the blades as its been sitting in the ground. Thats the first thing I would look at....as that could be a deal killer if the blades are rusted off. I don't know what you need to pay to get it....but in GOOD working order I would think that disc is worth about $250 ?? ...or so.
