New set of disc coming would like some ideas on what is working good to smooth off your dirt.

Lets see your drags that you have built to smooth off your last pass after discing. Try to get mine up this afternoon.

Mine is not @ all complicated - it's a RR tie that I drag behind my disc w/chains. Manually deployed & retracted :). The only welding involved was the addition of the short vertical angles @ the back of the disc to keep the tie from falling off. As infrequently as I disc it works well.

Mine is simply a straight log with chain link fence wrapped around it and the rest of the fence section dragging behind......

Champy, that's a nice idea. I use fence too, but have a board up front with screw eyes. I have access to guardrail posts for free and I can see a new drag in my near future! Thanks for the idea.

I really like that idea after I have in roughed in with my I beams that would work great for finishing it out I'll bet..
I have 2 I beams one is short ~6' and really heavy:

The other one is right length ~12' but too light for the hard gumbo soil we have so I fill the beam with ready mix concrete to add a couple hundred pounds to it, seemed to help a bit.:

I have used beams as well. Rail road iron works better or just as good. Its heavy.

The idea for a custom drag was for the drag to be on the rear of the harrow like top two photos. Thanks.

Hi Champy I love your idea I have some old chain link fence and your idea of the log is great. I cant afford a disk even the used ones is expensive so I am going to try your idea thank.

This is mine, apologise for the grainy night time photos and the other implements intruding into the photos.

The chain is normally hooked to a particular link acording to soil type, eg in sand it is hooked a little higher or it will windrow sand out the RHS.

Works well but the extra length on a linkage mounted disc makes turning more difficult and a couple disasters have resulted.
