I am trying to size a disc for 91HP 4WD diesel tractor. I have 50+ acres to lightly disc sandy loam soil (coastal Bermuda hayfield and pasture) one time per year. Plan is to search for a decent used one in my area. What size width (10, 12, 14, ? ft) would work best for my tractor? Thanks in advance!

I'm clueless does disc size and spacing factor into equation?

snakebitten, first like your tractor. Have one for sale. Hate to let it go but have retired from farming. Trying to remember the exact width of the disk I used with mine. It is a King brand with 28 blades, not sure if 22 or 20 inch blades. Can measure tomorrow if you want me to. I believe you would be at max with a 14 foot disc. Believe mine was 11 or 12 feet wide on the rear gang. Have sandy loam soil. If you have real sandy dirt a disk will cut into and traction is not as good so use small disk. The diameter of the blades and the disk design will also affect how easy it is to pull. If you are looking for a used disk pay attention to it and how it sits when raised and when lowered. Look for frame repairs (welding), leaking cylinder, wear on the moving parts for raising and the leveling system. Look or feel bottom side the top of the tongue for wear. If you will need to road it from one location to another 14 feet is wide.

A light disk will pull easier than a heavier one even going the same depth. If it is dry you will need a heavy one to do more than scratch Bermuda or pasture ground. A 12 or 14 would be a good size , 90 horse tractor will pull that size easy and be a decent transport width.

Thanks for all replies! Hoping to find a 12-14ft disc local (NW of Houston, TX), not needed until end of year, have time, thanks again...
