I have an 18 hp tractor and need a set of disc for planting food plots. What size would be best for this tractor and should I get the lower priced angle iron type or the adjustable box steel type? They will only be used about 2 weekends out of the year. Suggestions?

Hm this questons depends on a lot of things. Is you tractor 4 wheel drive, how much it wieghts, what brand is it, what is the lift capacity of the 3PH.

I have a Kioti CK20 HST 4wd with a FEL and all 4 tires filled with water. I am pulling a Woods DHM5 that wieghs 735 pounds. That is the absolute maximum you would want to pull behind yours. My tractor is 20 HP and on a grade i have to tote the disc. But on flat ground i can pull it to the axle in 4WD of course. I would buy the heavist disc i could afford that the tractor will pull. Wieght is everything on a disc. If it is to light it wont even tear up the grass on the ground. The next one i would look at is here at

Model B245 model B245-16-18

I have had this disc too. It did a fair job but nothing like the woods disc so i sold it so i could by the woods. But the woods disc is a load for a 20 HP it may be even tighter for a 18 HP. See if you could get one on a demo and see what you can do

It is a Ford 1600 2wd that weights about 2700 lbs. Don't know the lift capacity but it is old I expect it's not as stong as it once was.

Hmm you might be able to pull the lienbach i dont think you will be able to touch the woods with 2wd. The agle iron one i think will be to light. Hope this helps

with an 18hp your not going to pull much for a disc.... maybee one for an ATV....

youd be better off finding a buddie with a 3pt tiller.

Well, you CAN pull a disk. We all disked with far less tractor than that in the 50's and 60's. Back then we had draw bar disks, likely 6' in size, two rows. I spent many, many an hour pulling disks for my dad, grandpa and uncles on our farms. Most of it on some pretty heavy clay, but remember that ground had already been plowed the previous fall or spring.

The trick is to find a solid disk, new (hate to say it, but at TSC and similar, they have the XB stuff which is in your wheelhouse) or scour the eBay, Craigs listings until you find an used older disk that fits. Don't try to pull some 8' disk. You can find a 5 or 6 footer that will do you fine. Expect to spend time going over it and over it though. Best wishes in your search.

Thanks Fick, that is most likely what I will wind up with. I have a dealer close by that sells the King Kutter stuff...same as TSC.

That's great! That 2 cyl Shibaru engine is not a big torque producer, but otherwise, it is fine, fine tractor. Just sayin', they tend to bog down in low RPM, requiring you to clutch it, wait a second for the revs to come up, then go again. Keep it reved just right and you'll be fine.

I also suggest strongly you pick up what is called a middle buster. Sort of a potato plow, or double share plow. These are cheap. $140 new and much less used. Rough that ground up first. The middle buster will do all the hard work and then the disk will have a much, much easier time of dressing it up.
