How much horsepower is required to us disc seeder? I am picking up a IH Discall #300 just because the guy threw it in when I bought a NH #268 baler and 7ft solid shank cultivator. I got it all for $500 bucks, and everything is complete and in good working order. I have been looking for info on the disc seeder and can't seem to find much

Any chance of getting us a picture of that critter? I've been around farm equipment since I was a youngin' and in all those years, I can't say I've seen one or even have a clue what it is.

If the baler works you got a deal even without the other 2 pieces by the way.

Is a disc seeder about the same thing as what we use to call a drill?

What kind of tractor do you have?

Yes, seed drill. I find people calling them all sorts of things...such as "Disc with seed and fertalizer attachment" etc. The picture you posted looks like the exact same model and size, however the one I bought is in really good shape.

That's what I've always heard called a PLOW DRILL. It's shape allows it to be hitched behind and follow close to a plow, seeding directly into fresh (moist) dirt. Not real common "back east" here, more commonin western wheat states with low yearly rainfall amounts.

It may not take a huge amount of power to pull the drill, but a plow that width....WHEW! Not compact tractor material for sure.

This old one I googled is 15'. We used them to plant soybeans. Around Texas I seem them used for other grains that can be broadcast planted.

I thought this could be used to do one pass seeding as long as there is not too much debris on the land. I think it is going to be a challenge to pull this with my Kubota L3400. Either way, I am getting it for pretty much $100 and it also has the fertalizer box. I am planning on buying a larger tractor in the next couple of months, something with a Cab and 60-70hp to do field work. Heck even if I can only get the thing home, I could probably sell it or even scrap it for the $100 I paid for it.
