Discbine rattles

Hello, I finally got to use my discbine for the first time and knowticed when making sharp turns (90 degrees) it starts to rattle a lot, it doesn't sound like its a good thing for the U-joints and am wandering what I could be doing wrong to cause such rattling and vibration and how to fix it.

Sounds as if it is PTO driven..... U-joints, PTO shaft sounds as if some adjustment is needed.... In the manual, there should be something that tells you how long the draw bar should be so the U-Joints flex at the correct angles while turning.... One solution is a constant velocity joint....

Does your cutter have a pin or swivel hitch? If pin hitch are you using the equal angle hitch such as in photo?

what brand/model discbine do you have? I'm betting it's not a Kuhn, they have about the slickest hitch set up I've used, you can turn as tight as the implement/tractor will allow, no driveline issues.

Sorry should have given more details, it is driven by 1000 rpm PTO, it says the draw bar should be 16" from PTO stub to the hole which it is at.

Yes it is exactly like in the picture, the instruction manual says to make sure the drawbar is 16" long that way when I put that onto the drawbar it will make the angles equal, I did that but still get the rattling when making a turn and the Discbine is close to the tractor (not quite 90*) I try to make my turns like shown in this video as its about the closest thing I have seen to showing me how to properly make turns with a Mo-Co http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSbUosAzTd0&sns=em

It is a John Deere 1470.

16"s from center of hole in tractor drawbar to end of tractor pto shaft is correct for 1000 rpm operation. Since you're dealing with a used Mo-Co I wonder if the telescoping shafts on the tractor pto hook-up have enough wear to get the 2 pto u-joints out of phase(TIME)?

Corey's JD 1470 Mo-Co has regular u-joints on the tractor pto. 90 degree turns is the reason JD engineers invented the Equal-Angle hitch and yes it works if connected to tractor correctly. I personally despise CV joints that wear out no matter how much grease one pumps in them and are very expensive to repair.

Agreed, but a cv or cardigan joint usually works out better on tight turns. I blew my 990 IH moco driveline ujoints last year. Driveline shop rebuilt it for me, they said try not to do the 90 degree turn thing as it's good for their business. They priced out a cv, $600 OUCH. Had them make me a spare driveline for $200 instead, now I shut off the pto as I go into the turn, or make a loop on the turn. Either way, the pto gets shut off when the knife comes out of the cut.

The u-joints seem to be solid with no play, I went according to a diagram I saw on here to see if they were in phase. The manual says when hooked up the Mo-Co's PTO stub should be 1 3/4" higher than the tractors, right now it sits about level would that make a difference?

I think it's a U joint, not sure what a cv joint looks like on a PTO shaft.
