Anyone know where I can get a load handler for cheaper than the $99 they want at their web site?

Any more information about the load handler you are interested in, and what website their web site is that you are referring to?

As I recall, I paid $79 for mine at Pep Boys a few years ago. Don't know what they go for now.

I was skeptical but I've used mine for up to a 3/4 ton load of gravel and it rolled right out the back of the truck.

The LH2000M is the one I'm looking at. Here's the web site...

I bought my LH2000 last summer at (the now closed) Quality farm & home for 89.99. They used to sell the LH3000 also for 129.99. You could probably do a search on the internet and find them for those prices. I would recommend the LH3000 if you have a 3/4 ton, or if you like to push your truck's capacity a bit. The real difference between the two is the pipe that the fabric wraps around and that you crank on. In the LH2000, it is thick walled (1/4") plastic (PVC). When cranking hard on a heavy load, the pipe bends as you wrap up the fabric, until it hits the tailgate. Then it will turn, but it rubs on the tailgate. In the heavy duty model, this is a steel pipe that doesn't bend. I am planning on sliding a piece of black pipe into the plastic pipe. That should solve the problem, and be less expensive than the HD model.

I found the 2000M model for sale on ebay for $55 + $15 shipping, if anyone is still looking.

I checked with Ranchman, and he's building his own!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Ranchman, what material are you using for a loadhandler? I want to make on, not buy one. Robert

Well, the main components consist of a steel pipe, a couple of pillow block bearings and a heavy duty tarp. Not sure if my "experiment" will work, but I figured I'd give it a try.

I've had one(with a steel pipe) for 6 years now and used it a lot. The problem that I recall having with this thing is that the clamping system for the roller bar where a strap wraps around your tailgate would rub the paint right off unless you had something there to protect your finish.
Also, there was only one side that straped to your bumper while you are unloading. I called them up and had them send me a strap for the other bracket because it kept moving.

As a little side note, it would help make my bedliner more slipery for the fabric if I sprayed it with WD-40 before laying out the fabric and loading.

It sure beats shoveling out the load by hand, especially on a 8ft bed.
