Hi all,

These past few years, we have been plowing and disking some before rototilling, mainly for the fun/history of our land. We have used our neighbors disk for most of this. I believe it's a 6'-6.5' because on our M4900 it extends to about the center of each tire in the rear. We have a 4wd, open station, R4 tire, M4900 with loader. I have been doing a lot of work for a farm recently, and they have an 85hp John Deere 5420, loaded up, that pulls their 12' disk. They will be putting in about 45 more acres of crop in this year, and that 12' would take some time. I would like to help out with that. We may pull this disk with our Kubota just for finishing small areas, but it's definitely too big for actual tilling.

What size would you reccomend for our Kubota? I would like something that could dig in fairly well, with fairly well angled disks. I would like to stay with 3pt, but if you could give me some 3pt vs pull behind size numbers, that would be great!

Also, I would plan on keeping the loader on, unless any of you have a super convincing reason not to. Any other tips please feel free to include them.

6ft pull-type offset probaly be as big as you could go(depends type of soil/depth/weight/how much offset). 3point 7ft tandem, top. Also depends on same. The 3point disc weight going to depend on what you can pick up,atleast with pull-type dont have weight on tractor.. I seen pull-type go for as low as 900 at auctions around here.Just my 2 cents...

For what it's worth I know someone who pulls a 9' pull disk with a 4900.

I think you could use a 3 point 8' disc. Like the Leinbach 20" 20 disc model . I use it with my m6800 and it works fine. An offset disc is a different animal, way heavier, thus requiring more HP and weight. I agree a 3 point seems better for your tractor and i think you could use an8 footer as long as it is not an extremely heavy duty model.

This year, i am going to try to replace my Leinbach with an 8 foot offset Athens disc i restored, but i am afraid even with my 4wd loaded tractor, i am underpowered.

I was told by a farmer that runs big deere tractors to figure 5-6hp per foot of disk. I pull a Leinback 245 with 20 blades which is 6'10" with a L3700SU. If your 4900 means 49hp I would agre with the others you should be good with a 7-9 foot.

I've got an old 8' IH disc I pull behind my TT45A, (40hp) 2wd with no weights or water in the tires. It does good, I can pull it with the tires off the ground digging all the way to the axles (16" discs) in most ground. That thing of yours would drag it around like nobody's business. If I were you I wouldn't buy a 3pt over 7' because of the weight, but would strongly suggest looking into a pull type because you can make much sharper turns while tilling if your in a tight space like food plots for hunting or a garden.
