What caused the contact areas in an 8N distributor to carbon to one side? Contacts in the cap have carbon on one side and rotor the same.
What is the correct gap setting for side mount distributor?
Thanks

The gap will most likly be 0.013 or 15. You will have to use a feeler gauge to set them. Soundguy is the guy to ask about the Ford tractor repair on here.

Sounds like you are talking about the contacts in the cap, not the points. They will always arc a little and it will be on the side where the rotor appraches the cap terminals as the spark will jump when it gets close enough. A "hotter" (new) coil might help but this is why you replace cap and rotor when you do a "tune-up".
