Hi All,
I'm a bit stumped on a power beyond modification I recently made to a John Deere 5045E & looking for some help. The power beyond is being used to run a seed harvester mounted to the front end loader. We used the harvester previously on a JD 5400, worked great. However, here is where I am at:
-On the new JD 5045s, the front end loader hooks up to the same SCV orifices that power beyond uses. John Deere will sell a kit that installs "t"s on these 3 lines (supply, return, excess), that also includes a flow-adjuster valve, thermostat, and automatic kill switch should the thermostat read too hot. However, this kit cost somewhere in the region of a few grand, & I opted not to go that option. From looking at the schematics of this kit, as well as the base power beyond kit (with no loader pre-installed), it seemed pretty straight-forward to just install my own "t"s in the three lines going to the front-end loader control box & run my harvester from there. Everything installed well, and at first seemed to run great.
However, today when I tried to run the harvester it became apparent that the harvester pump is only actuated when the front-end loader is engaged. When the loader is not being moved, no hydraulic fluid actively moves into the harvester pump. Which leaves me scratching my head.
My understanding had been that the loader effectively the 'power beyond' function supplying it with fluid at all times, and that this fluid was only used for work when the joystick was moved. If the joystick was not moved, the fluid should be being diverted into the excess line. Thus, if I tapped into the 3 lines feeding the loader, & hooked my supply, return, and excess up to the appropriate lines, the harvester should be using that constant fluid loop.
EDIT: I was being dumb originally. I just need a good diverter valve on the T between the loader and harvester. Any recommendations?
Thanks for your help.
