DIY weed wiper

hosspuller- it the Rogers kit a gravity feed arrangement?

Thanks- Oldstuff

Yes it is. I built a 15' kit that goes on my FEL QA. Works very well. Flow of chemical can be controlled by rolling the assembly back so the wicks are coming out the forward edge of the pipe rather than the bottom. When it's full I run it rolled back so they are at about 3/9 oclock. As the chemical is used up I rotate forward lowering the wicks. Last year I wiped 37 acres of freshly seeded CRP. Was trying to kill Iron Weeds and Sunflowers which had grown to a height above the desirable plants.

Are you using about 33% mix ratio for 41% or so glyphosate? I've got to try to wipe out some johnson grass. Most of our ground is so uneven I can't go very wide without tipping and hitting something so what I build will have to be short or segmented and wheeled. Will probably just make a 10' one for the SbS this year. That machine rides better over all my gopher piles than a tractor.

Any problems with carry over from the tires running over the wiped weeds? About how far will 5 gallons go? Do you have an adjustable vent for rate control?

Interesting roll cage and canopy you have there. Does not look standard. Just built a sunshade for one of our tractors but just cantilevered it with no problem.

I bought Roundup from a farmer friend who gets it bulk. I'm not sure of it's strength. All I added was a little Astute. No wayer.

No problem with tire kill.

No vent. Had more worries of it wicking out too quickly than not enough.

My canopy roof is off an old open station JD 510 backhoe. I built the frame. I work in the timber a lot. Wanted it to withstand heavy tree limbs falling on it as well as a rollover.

Forgot to talk about volume. I bought 7.5 gallons. Drove over 37 acres. Had about 1.5 gallon left. This is totally dependent on how thick the vegetation is you are wiping.

Thanks for the information. Just what I was looking for. Ordered the parts. Hopefully now some do-gooder won't get glyphosate banned.

forgot to say how substantial the canopy looks. I try to stay out of the woods 'cept with the dozer.

Oh man, if I had a dozer...... :)

Several weed varieties have become glyphosate resistant. I've got some growing in my graveled parking area. I've sprayed them three times in the last month. The last time I used 32oz of Roundup in 2 gallons of water. They aren't looking too perky but I'm not sure it's gonna kill em.....

I built a 10 weed wiper from parts from Rodgers. I ended up having to supply compressed air via a pump up sprayer with a 1/4 tubing. The reason for compressed air was the wicks were not getting enough glyphosate. My application was for Johnson grass.
