Oil & Fuel DK 501 fuel pump

Just to let you know
I have been having problems with loss of power and hard starting for the last 20 hours.
the tractor now has 180 hours on it.
Finaly no start! so pulled off the fuel line to the injection pump (from filter) fitted a clear hose to a drum and used the hand pump - good flow - so not the filter.
removed the glow plugs then cranked over the engine - No Flow - so problem is mechanical pump.
Stripped the pump and found the fuel non return valves are rubber mushrooms and hard.
Have contacted our local supplyer for parts availability and price (still waiting for reply)
Went and bought a electric fuel pump for $110 AUD fitted it and away we go.
Will repair the mechanical pump if and when the parts come as it is currently by passed.
The beauty of the electric pump is as soon as I switchc on the ignition the pump runns, so when changing fuel filters I can prime it easy

contacted the local supplyer, their workshop foreman says the fuel lift pump is a disposable item and can not be repaired (no source of parts)
he quoted $120 AUD for pump plus cartage plus 10% tax.
I told him not to order as I had fitted a electric fuel transfer pump and this is working fine.
He replied that this is what they usually advise their customers (as it is not only cheaper but should last longer)
Will post pics of instalation later
