Just an update: I have ordered a DK5010HS, and am eagerly looking forward to having it in a few weeks.

I'm late to this party but I'll chime in. I'm a new owner of a DK 5010HS and have all of 30 hours on it. I've found the biggest benefit to using the lever is not having to use the gear shift to go into reverse. Just pull the lever back.

As kbsd said I am usually at a crawl whenever I switch from forward to reverse or vice versa and it's quite smooth. You've got a fine machine on the way. Congrats!

So I have about 11 hours on the tractor so far and I'm getting used to it. I'll write a full review sometime later. For now I'll briefly comment on the hydraulic-shuttle system. I find myself using the clutch more than expected - the shuttle lever does not allow for precise stops or starts (so far at least) so if I need to inch forward or something, it's clutch pedal time. Also, I often want to switch gears as well as directions, which means clutch pedal. The shuttle is very useful for getting going from a stop, or going from reverse to forward when I'm doing a 3pt turn, non-precision loader work, or landscaping work going back and forth across an area. It's definitely better than not having the hydraulic shuttle, but it's not quite as smooth and pleasant as the Kubota M7040 hydro-shuttle I tested 10 years ago.

I think I would still take this transmission over a HST, but it really depends on your uses and preferences. I was already comfortable with a clutch and I will be doing large amounts of field work where HST would be a drag, even with cruise control. However, someone doing mostly loader work, or that plus mowing inside small areas, would probably prefer HST.

I just got a used 2017 DK5010 with 107 hours on it yesterday. It seems like when I start the engine when it's not warmed up I have to wait a minute or so before it will go into forward or reverse. The shifter will shift, but nothing happens. So I put it in neutral and wait a minute and then it goes. Does the hydraulic oil need to warm up on the hydraulic shuttle for it to work properly?

Yes. The clutch is hydraulic and the system prevents use until it warms up enough for it to work without engaging the clutch too rapidly.

A blast from the past! I have about 125 hours on the machine now. Basically same view as before, but I end up using the clutch pedal 98% of the time so the "hydro" part of the shuttle doesn't really do much for me. I haven't experienced any times when the hydro-shuttle was not yet working, but after experience with prior tractors I always let the hydraulic system warm up before doing anything with the machine, so that's probably why. I have used the tractor in actual air temperatures down to around -5 F. (windchill lower but irrelevant to the machine) and it works just fine as long as it was warmed up, but I find the hydro-shuttle especially slow at outside temperatures below 30 or so.
