I got a question for you all. My DK35 with a backhoe had a bungee cord which the dealer told me needs hooked to the Hydraulic joystick so the backhoe will work. He said when not using the backhoe to unhook the bungee from the joystick. Is this normal or is the joystick actually broken?

All I can say is I would be really surprised if it come from the factory like that.
Sounds like you should be talking to the dealer about the bungee cord, something is not right.

Without the bungee cord on it the backhoe won't work. I'm going to call them on monday and ask what is the deal with the bungee cord. Seeing that it's only 3 days old i'm sure it's covered under warranty.

I'm not very familiar with the DK35 but I imagine it can't be that much different than my CK30hst. If the bh is powered by a rear remote, then the remote should lock in position (detent position) when pushed the full travel in either direction which keeps the hydro fluid flowing. If they plummed the bh into the joystick for the fel, then I can see where the bungie cord is needed to keep the hydro fluid flowing to the bh but this isn't the standard way of powering a bh. Like Mousefield, I find it hard to believe that a bungie cord is standard equipment. :confused2:

I'm sure DK35Vince will give you a good answer as soon as he sees this. He's had his for long time.

I just got off the phone with the dealer. He said that normally there is a detent there that locks it in place, and what they do is take the detent out so u need the bungee cord. Their theory is that people will forget to take the shifter out of gear when they are not running the backhoe and will burn it up, and with using the bungee cord it's a visual reminder. I guess it's a pretty good idea, even with the bungee cord I've forgot to take it out of gear, then noticed the bungee cord and took it out of gear. Thanks for all the replies. This forum is awesome.

I have the older model DK. My rear remotes do not have detents to hold the in position like I've read the newer models do. Mine would need a bunge cord to hold them in position to run a backhoe.
Personally I would prefer using a bunge VS having remotes with a dentent. I don't think I would like dentents holding my remotes on. To easy to leave them on and not realise it overheating the oil. Doesn't do the pump any good either.
The backhoe on my DK 35 does not use the remotes, it plugs in underneath the tractor (just under the right side step.)

Something they should have mentioned when you got it. ;)

Whoa, what am I missing here, if the backhoe is on the tractor and hooked up to the Hyd system, the valves are all open and the hyd oil is just recirculating, even if you leave the lever on. If you take the backhoe off,or disconnect it, you should put on a loop to recirculate the hyd oil just IN CASE you accidentally leave the lever in the on position.

Exactly my point of why I do not want detents on my rear remotes.
Without detents you can't accidently leave the lever in the ON position, so you never need the loop.

After hearing everything, I'm glad I got the bungee cord, that way I won't forget, well at least for too long hehe.
