Do Dealers run new Tractors

Does anybody know whether dealers will run the tractor for a few hours when they receive a new unit? Supposively to check out the engine and hydraulics?

A few hours...I doubt it. It would be somewhat expensive for the dealer, and prospective buyers would not care to see that much time on the hourmeter of their "new" tractor.

Personally, I'd be more concerned if they didn't put some test time on them. How else will they know that everything is working as it should be and that all the fittings are snug and secure.

I would believe that a reputable dealer would make this a standard part of the sale, and should inform the buyer that testing will be done.

Maybe some of the dealers that frequent TBN can chime in and explain their procedures. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've probably bought a dozen or more new tractors, and all of them have had anywhere from 1 to 3 hours on them when I got them. That even goes for the ones I special ordered.

My JD 2210 had 4 hrs. and it had a tag on the steering wheel that said Dyno check and the date/tech name. The dealer said they do this to all their tractors. Also most of the bolts had a paint marker to indicate bolt torque I presume.

If it didn't, I would be concerned that the dealer didn't do his job.

Any good reputable dealer is going to do this. They will put it on the dyno and make sure that it makes rated hp, they will check for leaks in hydraulics and also pressure test the hydraulics to make they are working properly. They will inspect heating and cooling system, etc. If I didn't have at least 3 or 4 hours on my tractor I would want to know why the dealer didn't do their job. Smaller dealers won't have the pressure testing equipment or dyno's to test them.

Bought a new tractor last week. It had .9 hours on it when it was delivered.

I honestly don't know what my dealer specifically does, but there's always been a little time on the three I've boughten (one that was ordered). I know he drives them into the shop to hook up mowers, FELs and such, then drives them out to his lot to put in the lineup and if you want to test drive one he'll let you...
I don't think anything major would really show up until the tractor was actually used and not just ran on a dyno or driven around the lot. Murphy's law if you will.
I do know that even if you test drive the one you are going to buy that he brings it back into the shop to go over it and put a coat of wax on it.
