Thanks to all for all your advice about removing my power steering cylinder. I have it off now and in the shop. I just needed to have the power steering seal replaced, because of a leak when I turn the tractor to the right. I called the shop, and I believe they got my power steering cylinder mixed up with someone else. The shop guy stated after he got inside of my power steering cylinder, I had a bent rod inside. My question is, do this power steering cylinder for this model tractor have a rod inside the cylinder. Mt tractor just leaked power steering fluid that all, when I refill the power steering tank(box) it steers with no problem until the power steering fluid get low again. How could I have had a bent rod inside without me having a hard time steering the tractor even before or after I refilled it with power steering fluid. When I refill the tank it turn with no problems. until the fluid run out. I have a Mahindra 4500 2WD. Vickers cylinder. Can someone tell me if this power steering cylinder comes with a rod inside, or the shop has got my cylinder mixed up with someone else.

Google up some cylinder images till you get to one that looks like yours.

Hydraulic cylinders usually need something that moves to transfer pressures.

I would suspect you do have a rod. If bent it could cause your fluid leak at the seal by being at a different angle to the seal. It could function fine with a little bend but cause a seal to leak.

I would go to the shop and see how the cylinder operates and how it goes together. Just ask to see the bent rod.
Then next time you have a cylinder leak you can repair it yourself if you like.

yes it does.. you can see it go in and out when you turn... since its bent its not letting the seal work properly. Id look up this sight and see if you can get a new cylinder ordered through a dealer. http://stores.reubicontractorparts.com/

Yes the piston is attached to the rod which attaches the other end of the cylinder to the tractor or steering arm. If the rod is bent then replacing the seal will do no good as the bent rod will just take out the new seal. The rod has to be straight in order for the cylinder to function properly. Bent cylinder rods are not an uncommon problem so you can probably take him at his word.
