I know ALL of us wish for a bigger tool...but with my wrenches up to a mere 7/8" and 1/2" sockets to a mere 1". I may be lacking in the tool Department.

With a B2620 on the way.......And doing my own maintenance a fact of life. Other than a Service Manual, some specific fluids and OEM filters.....Will I need any larger tools or Kubota specific tools???

I can recall having to buy a few oddball "vehicle specific" wrenches for my BMW bikes, and an old Porsche I once owned.

STILL waiting for my MMM to come in for delivery.

My wife seems perfectly happy with the tools I have...
I'm in the same boat. I was thinking I'd wait until around Father's Day to look for specials on larger tool sets
Just this morning I had to go buy a 1-1/16" socket so I could drain the HST on my BX-25...

I've found that I needed a few wrenches larger than 1". I bought a set of large wrenches, and a duplicate 1-1/8" wrench for my toothbar nuts & bolts, but I think that's it so far.

There are other things that I already had and took for granted though, too, I suppose. Offhand, I can think of these needs, which you probably already have some of:

  • Grease gun
  • Impact gun
  • Torque wrench
  • An oil drain pan dedicated to hydraulic fluid
  • Flare wrenches

You should wait until your tractor arrives, but, I think you'll need metric.:)

This has got me by for many years for everything:

3/8" drive socket set 3/8" through 3/4"
3/8" drive socket set 10MM through 19MM
Combination wrenches 1/4" through 7/8"
Combination wrenches 8MM through 20MM
A set of metric allen wrenches

The only special tool I bought when I got my Kubota was a socket for the banjo fitting on the hydrostatic fluid fuel strainer.

Then there is my 650 foot pound 1/2" drive impact wrench. When all else fails it is time for this implement of destruction.

Sounds like you have most of the standard sizes, I'd wait and just buy the 1/2" drive sockets you will need in the larger sizes. Those over 20mm. You'll probably only buy a couple. Auto parts stores have the bigger sizes. I think I have a 27mm and a larger one for axle nuts. A high power impact wrench is a nice luxury.

I went and bought a 3/4 drive ratchet/breaker bar/socket set to get the blades off my KK brush cutter. There is a huge nut holding the blades on.
BTW I got the set at the controversial Harbor Freight for a steal on sale, so far so good.

on kubota, you will need metric.

i had to break down and buy a special socket for the blades on the MMM. it takes like 27 MM or something pretty large like that. why they use such an odd size head on the blade bolts is any body's guess.

i'm finding i need more and more "exotic" tools to work on newer equipment. torx and the like are becoming more popular. the front diff drain plug on my toyota tundra takes a giant allen type (hex female needing hex male wrench) i have yet to find. luckily i don't 4x4 very much so haven't changed it yet!

one tip i've found helpful. by far the cheapest way to buy new wrenches of decent quality is in a set. problem is, most sets only have common sizes in them - which i already have. i keep my eyes open at pawnshops and second hand stores for the odd sizes i need and am willing to veer away from quality names (craftsman, allan, snapon, etc.) for an odd size here or there which i won't use very often.

i just bought a complete set of craftsman sockets 1/4" drive and 3/8" drive in the common small sizes w/ three smooth grip ratchets for my mom for 40 bucks at a pawn shop. thought that was a pretty good deal.

you can also get some pretty awesome deals on impact wrench sockets from china. they are built tougher than the hand wrench sockets so even the really cheap ones are hard to destroy if you only use them with a hand ratchet.

FN,

You should know by now that its the prefect excuse to get more tools! :D

I decided that I "needed" an air powered grease gun for all the zerks on the bucket alone! Justified and done!! :D:D

Been riding BMW bikes for so many years that I've got most of the METRIC handled. Even have metric allen sets, both 1/4 and 3/8 inch drive. Also TORX and a good set of metric flare wrenches up to 21 mm. I am a little short on HEAVY stuff though; 3/4" drive , large breaker bars, etc.

I'll be passing right by a Northwest tool store in a few days. I'll take a look at LARGE metric sets as well as some lubrication tools. All I have is a small grease gun that is overdue for replacement. They will probably have a far better array of choices, and prices......than my local Sears store.

I so ENJOY buying tools....this is such a great excuse!!:D
