Do I need to replace all 4 tires

Hi All,

After my lesson learning event of getting the tractor stuck in muck, I had to use jack & logs to winch it out. Now one of front tire has a rip in it. Thinking i can get away by just putting 2 new fronts. Or do i need to swap all 4.
Thinking of putting R14 in front and leaving the used R4 in rear as is.

Thoughts..experiences?

I'm a fan of 'balancing', so I'd replace both the front with whatever you decide.

As long a the R14s fit the rims, of course, then it won't affect/effect how your 2720 performs... especially if you need to do any road/pavement/bitumen travelling.

If the R14 has the same outside diameter as your R4 then it shouldn't be an issue. The concern is changing the tire diameter can cause undue stress on the other drive train parts due to the slightly higher ratio of the front axle. If the rears are badly worn and then you install new tires on the front can have the same effect.

If you do some searching by brand you can study the RCI (Rolling Circumference Index) of each tire. That number needs to be the same as your current tire. Tread design makes no difference.

Another issue may be switching tire type and being able to retain the current rim??

Since we don't know specifically what tire you have and/or specifically what tire you are wanting to switch to we can't give you a definite yes/no answer.

I agree in replacing in pairs. Because the fronts are a smaller diameter than the rears, they naturally wear out quicker. You might replace the fronts 2 or 3 times before the rears need replacing.

Currently I have the R4 23X8.5-12 in the front and the rears are also R4.
The only reason I need to swap is because the left front has a small rip in it and dont want to risk it with the loader work.
