Do JD dealers offer \"Discounts\" on new models?

Been looking to buy a lawn/compact tractor. I've got is narrowed down to the X595 or the 2210. Or do I?

They're about the same price, and my local dealer is offering about the same discount on both (13-14%).
The X seems like it would cut grass a little more comfortably (which is what I do about 90% of the time), while the 2210 does other "tractor work" (which I might? start doing, if I had the machine). The X looks more "modern", while the 2210 looks a little "long in the tooth" (styling and convenience wise).

Since the dealer says that the 2210 has been discontinued, should I wait until the follow on model to the 2210 is announced on August 29, 2005? Do John Deere dealers typically offer "Introductory Discounts" on newly announced models in September?

The "x" series are premium garden tractors designed for, well lawn and garden stuff. It is comfortable and full of user-friendly features. The 2210 is and Advantage Series or no-frills sub compact. It will do whatever the "x" does, but you might not look as pretty doing it. The 2210 is a little better designed for a loader, I think. The "x" has two hydraulic levers that are column-mounted, whereas the 2210 has a real "big tractor" joytsick. I do not think the "x" has a Hi Range either.

When you say "tractor stuff" does that include loader work? You can get a loader for the "x", but the design of it prevent it from being an ideal loader tractor.

I'd say they offer small discounts. Presently you can get a 790 for 8399 compared to 8850 or so on the configurator; I think then if you bought a cutter and one other implement get another 2 or 3 hundred off from Deere; which puts you under the 2210 price probably if you want a no frills tractor and don't need FEL and what you do is mow 90 percent of the time. I got the 790, lx5 and bb2060 for 9700 plus tax and you can get finishing mower if you like.

The quote I got on a JD 4110 included $450 in "JD Incentives." A different dealer included a $250 discount not identified the same way.

But I wondered if they would offer more incentives come September/October in order to clean out the 2005 inventory. Don't know if they work like car dealers.

I have heard 2210 owners say that it is a great mower. I can't imagine spending that amount and not getting the loader capability that it offers. But if you can afford to wait, I would say that you will be seeing new stuff very soon, and there may be changes in the x series, too. There will be a window where there are old models to be had while the new will be there as well.

You could always wait a spell and see what the new small-frame 2000 TWENTY series look like. (they may be out by the Fall) Then, once they're out, you may get a deal on the ones you are looking at now.
Just a thought.
