Be patriotic. Fight income redistribution. Limit yourself to cash transactions.

While I myself prefer cash transactions, I personally do not like to carry several hundred dollars around with me. So usually anything under $200 is cash, and over $200 or online, credit card payment. Many people prefer to use charge or debit cards for everything but about ten years ago I saw a tv program about keeping to a budget and what I recall most of all was the advice:

"You will always spend less if you put Uncle Ben down on the counter instead of charging your purchases" VERY TRUE !!!

Got to thinking....do the small business owners here also give priority treatment to the customers who are prompt in paying their bills?

yes.... and if you are on my "prefered customer list" (that is the list of customers I prefer not to do business with) I might even ignore the person if they were a bad payer or short payer.

Our accounting system even ranks clients for us (A, B, C's, etc...) so that we know to treat those who treat us well, well in return.

Its the way of the world. (even in the socialistic / communist Canadian medical system does it...lol)

Most definitely, and good on you for being one of those customers!

I don't run accounts (I pay upon material delivery) so customers that pay on time are worth their weight in gold. They also seem to be the best customers at referring my services to their friends. On the flip side, there's nothing more aggravating and time consuming than having to chase down a customer to get paid.

Never burned heating oil but got a post card in the mail once that provided a nice discount for customers who paid in full at time of tank refill.

The heating/ac company in my OP was highly recommended to me by a friend, and said company did a complete retrofit of my old oil burner furnace back in '93 when I converted to gas and they also installed ac at the same time. I was so pleased with their work back then, when we built on and needed another furnace and ac installed I contacted them to do the work. Well, the rough in crew showed up and did a half-*** job and left early for the day, and I contacted the owner of the company and he came out personally the following day, FIRED THE CREW LEADER ON THE SPOT FOR POOR WORKMANSHIP, apologized to me, and had his crew redo the areas I felt were poorly done. I told him because of the way he handled the issue to my satisfaction I would NEVER consider hiring another company. Feel very fortunate to have such a contractor who is honest and dependable.

We pay our bills when we get them. For business purposes, most things are CC or check, so we have documentation. One reason I didn't buy one brand of tractor was that the dealer started telling me how to cheat on the sales tax. And how he did it frequently. I figured if he was cheating all the time, eventually, he'd cheat me. He's no longer in biz, and I'm not surprised :) I don't choose to do business with bums. I get very good service from my furnace / ac guy, and the local mechanic is great.

What's patriotic about tax evasion? Somebody has to pay for our military, our roads, police and fire. Just not you? You are a lowlife.

In short, Yes.
By the way, the customers that pay the worst complain the most...

Very much so. I go out of my way with good customers and quick payers. I agree with the post that the slowest payers are usually the worst customers.
