Do the Canadians still fly the American flag ?

In 1976 my Uncle took me on a fishing trip to Canada (BayFin Lodge) on lake Huron ? I had never been to Canada before or since,but I remember occasionally seeing an American flag on a flag pole in Canada,I asked my Uncle why they flew an American flag in Canada,he told me it was out of respect for the USA.
I am curious if this same practice still takes place in Canada ?

You may just find many Americans with summer homes in Canada. That and vacation spots that mainly cater to Americans. Those type of places are know to fly the American flag.

I believe the American and Canadian flag is still flown on both sides of the border as well. As it should be. Dave

Living close to a US / Canadian border crossing we get to see a lot of each other’s flag flying together in Canada and here. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Buffalo Sabres have both flags hanging in HSBC arena where they play. They also sing both national anthems before each home game which is something very few hockey teams do which is funny since the majority of the players are Canadian. Most border towns and cities have both flags out of respect and hopefully it will stay that way.

If I were to have to live in another country besides the USA,I would choose Canada or Australia. But there is no other place in the World that I would rather be than the the good old......

All Hockey teams play both National Anthems when a team from each country is playing.

( which is funny since the majority of the players are Canadian. )

I wonder how long this will remain a true statement -- the Europeans are taking over the NHL very quickly.

I know when a Canadian team is playing a US team, both anthems are usually played most arenas.

When the Sabres are playing the Habs, do they sing in French? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think every rink I've ever been in has had both flags prominently displayed.

On a Canadian two dollar bill, the flag flying over the Parliament building is an American flag.

The following flags
appear atop of the Parliament Buildings on the following notes:

Maple Leaf - $2 & $1000
Red Ensign - $5, $10 & $50
Union Jack - $100

The Red Ensign is predominantly red and consists of a small Union Jack in the
upper left hand corner and the Canadian Coat of Arms in the lower right field.
These elements are clearly visible on the note with the aid of a magnifying
glass. Horizontal lines were engraved across the face of the Red Ensign to
create a sense of motion and to deepen the contrast between the flag's
background and the small Union Jack. These lines should not be mistaken for
horizontal bands such as appear on the American flag.

The American flag has never been placed on any Canadian banknote.
