Everything I touch has turned out baddly, very baddly. From work, to my personal life, to my farm and tractor. It is just one of those weeks. But the capper, after complaining to all my friends about what a rotten week it has been, was go tractor for some alone time, pull the hood up to clean out engine compartment, and have the right hand hinge snap off. On the 1850 the hood weighs in at somewhere around 2 tons. I am not weak and it is a PITA to lift. I have gone into town for some schedule 40 3/4" pipe. Will try to do this without disconnecting all the hoses or starting an engine fire. Wish me luck, I am going to need it.

Why not install a hyd lift cyl to raise the ltd, or a nitrogen filled cyl.

You can pump up the accumulator for the hyd supply to raise the lid,

Just touch a lever and smile.

Looks like a crappy weld from the picture. Better luck next week I hope.

Has anyone done either solution? I have been wondering about how strong a lift cylinder to use. With the lack of latches on the PT, too much lift would have the hood bounce open for those of us on rough/steep terrain.

Count me curious...

I saddly don't have the skill to be the Guinea pig on this one. I was thinking hood hinges off a f350 because I can't figure how make hydraulics work

If you put lift assist cylninders on it, be sure to put a latch on the lid, too. Tree branches and stuff could cause it to pop open.

A 50 lb nitrogen cyl should help raise the lid.

It would be easy enough to mount a hyd cyl outside the lid and connect up a set of hoses and a solenoid or manual valve to raise and lower.

Something like this should work.

Surplus Center - 1X20X0.75 DA HYD CYL

You would install it in the area where the rise of the lid equals the stroke.

This might help you ? Hope things go better...;)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-okDJA5CVw

I certainly would not recommend putting cylinders on the outside of the hood. At least in my woods, they would take a beating. Add quick attack pins to the setup because they will also get in the way of maintenance etc.
