Massey Ferguson 1533
How many of you that own Massey compacts actually have a local dealer that actually knows something about your tractor and has a service department that actually knows how to service your tractor? In my area the dealers know very little about the compact line and it seems that their mechanics know even less about working on them. I had my tractor into a local dealer last week to have a rear remote kit installed. I was told three different times by two different mechanics that it was taking them longer to do the job because they weren't familiar with working on a tractor like mine (I have a 1533). When the installation was complete one of the mechanics wanted to check the hydraulic level and he was looking all over the tractor. Finally he said "Where is the dipstick?" I had to tell him that there was no dipstick and that the level was checked with a sight glass. Then I had to show them where the sight glass was located. It's frustrating to me to think that Agco and the dealers who sell these tractors and do not provide good support for them after the sale. From talking with people in other areas it sounds as though this is most likely more of a regional problem than a nationwide issue.

Just to top it off when my tractor was delivered back to me I found that my orange safety triangle had been damaged and there was a rattle coming from under the seat. When I lifted the seat up I found trash left under the seat by the mechanics (cigarette packages) and I found the source of the rattle. It turns out that they apparently bent the lid to my toolbox while they were working on the tractor and tried to bend it back to shape resulting in damaged paint and a lid that doesn't quite fit right.

I plan to follow up on all of these issues with Agco and I'll let all of you know how it turns out. To sum it all up I really like my MF 1533 but hate the fact that I've bought a product that isn't supported well by Massey dealers.

Just curious but which dealer are you dealing with? I think our closest dealer is pretty good. We have never dealt with him much but he seems to be a good guy and he sure does sell a lot of tractors.

Our dealer in Somerset PA seems to know quite a bit about the smaller tractors. They are an AGCO dealer selling the big stuff and also handle the mid size MF and small ones like our GC2310. The sales, parts and service departments go out of their way for even the smallest of problems. I quess we are fortunate to have a good dealer so close - 20 miles from our home.

Equipment user. What dealer do you use? Around here the Massey dealers also carry New Holland and they really seem to push their compact tractor line. We bought our 1533 from Ben & Elmer in Glasgow KY. We have never owned a tractor before and the main reason we purchased from them was because of the excellent service they said they'd give. They told us they'd deliver the tractor to us free of charge, come pick it up and do the 50 hour service labor free of charger (we were to pay for fluid and filters). They said they'd transport the tractor free of charge for any work it needed done during the warranty period. All of that sounded great but what sounded the best to us was that they told us when they delivered the tractor they'd go over all of the safety and operation procedures, how to take the loader off, how to connect an implement to the three point hitch, etc. So far with the exception of delivering the tractor none of the above has happened. When the tractor arrived they didn't go over any of the things they said they'd do. I asked if they were going to and our salesman told me "it's all in the manual, you can read it." I called when we were ready for the 50 hour service and was told that because we'd put 50 hours on it so quickly the 50 hour service could wait until around 100 hours. I'm a commercial pilot and have been involved with aircraft maintaince so I know the importance for doing hourly inspections at the proper time. So we did the 50 hour service on it ourselves. The work that I mentioned in my initial post was done at G&G in Columbia KY. The person I've spoken with at AGCO has been great but unfortunately that doesn't make up for poor dealers and a local AGCO rep who knows absolutely nothing about the compact tractor line.

I have two dealers. One is really close and they have sold quite a few compacts, but they haven't worked on very many of them. They make real sure that they know what they are doing before they do anything. The other dealer is not as close. This dealer has sold many compacts and knows their stuff.

It is like an product. Some dealers are good and aren't.

I had one close by that I really liked, but reasons unknown to me they have gone out of business. The next closest dealer is 50 miles and I really liked them when I was shopping, but I have yet to call on them for any maintenance work, so we'll see.

Our closest dealer that I was referring to in my earlier post is Eugene Hourigan farm equipment. Like I said i've never dealt with him much but i've talked to him several times and he seems to be a good guy and he sure does sell the heck out of those massey's but I don't believe he has sold many compacts. He mainly sells mostly utility tractors like the 400 series and the mid range 5400 series tractors more than anything.

I bought a TLB2310 today. Salesman came to house when it was delivered, and went throught the steps of how to run machine and attachments. I haven't used them for service yet. They are Northwood Power Equipment, Route 4 Northwood, N.H. I since found out my neighbor bought same tractor from them. plowking
