I know this sounds like a stupid question. I think I'm going to pay the local tractor place to do my brakes and do the seals....or is this an easy job?

I just didn't want to horse with the wheel unless you guys think it is a good exercise.

I also want to replace the seal on the pto.... I imagine, to avoid filling and draining multiple times, I should do them at same time correct?

What kind of tractor? Mine will take a split seal so it isn't hard at all. Some fluid will come out but no need to drain it all for that job. How "hard it is" depends on the make, year and size of the tractor.

If your Ford is like my Ferguson, the brakes and axle seals are pretty easy. If you like fixing stuff and have the time, try to do it yourself. The first time it took a while to do. The second time it took a couple of hours and wasn't that hard. I think the PTO seal is a little more because you are dealing with tranny, but a did it myself without any help or trouble.

Pretty sure you can do the wheel seals without losing fluid, just tilt the tractor.

The PTO might be a different story.

But then, when was the fluid last changed??

Go for it.

I was going to change the fluid anyway. I figure if I was going to do the brakes and I needed to drain Tractor, then I'd do PTO as well....What I was trying to avoid doing was draining the fluid, changing after pto seal replacement, then have the tractor guy drain the fluid again to change the brakes.

Ford NAA

If you have minimal mechanical ability you can do both projects.

I know this will sound silly, but Google it. Just type a sentence like you would talking to us. "How to change brakes on Ford Tractor NAA?", for example.

Oh I have...and like anything else...looks easy enough. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get to a place where I couldn't finish. I'm also concerned about making sure I get the shims right after I replace the axel seals.

Brakes easy, simple drum, axle seals medium. Just some more manual work. Pto seal is the easiest. Drain all three sumps, 4 bolts, snatch assy out, remove inner split ring, tap stub end on board, carrier and seal drop off bearing. If bearing and wear ring good, drive seal out put new one in, grease lip, set carrier on pro shaft, tap ling end in board, carrier slips on, add split ring and gasket and 4 bolts. Never have to touch outer ring if you don't want.

I'd do oil, brakes and pto at one time

Oil is already done. I use the 134 in all three other sumps right?

Yes, 134 spec oil in all 3, but if you pull the pro shaft, all the sumps get mixed. Usually Hyds drains into rear end overfilling it.
