'Do you want to leave page' after posting - 'Yes' causes double post

'Do you want to leave page' after posting:

'Yes' causes double post. The first <enter> posted it, but the draft is still on your screen so you can't see it.

I've experienced this twice in 24 hours. First time I hit yes and put a double post into Friendly Politics where the dup can't be deleted.

Just now I didn't hit either yes or no, rather, I opened another tab and found my new post was at the top of Today's Posts. While the draft and the choices remained on the initial screen.

What to set differently?

TBN is the only place that occasionally has a problem with double posts. I've never seen this on other VB-based sites.

I've just gotten used to using the pulldown menu (firefox) and going back to the search results page. Especially useful on those threads that have multiple pages of new replies. Saves hitting the back button over and over, and circumvents any dialog box.

It's something to do with your browser asking if you want to leave the page. TBN's website isn't asking you that, or maybe it is... Maybe a JAVA issue. Or browser issue. Or a security program issue. I used to have that issue on a PC several years ago. Haven't seen it on my home PC or iPad in a couple years.

If you're using firefox, maybe try this...

If another browser, google up some questions about that particular browser. It could be that you had a recent update on the browser software and it reset a security setting to turn this on. Worth a look-see.

Yes Firefox.

Ok, I did that, set 'dom.disable_beforeunload' to true. I'll report back the results.

Chosen Solution

You can double-click the dom.disable_beforeunload pref on the about:config page to change its value to true.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

I used to have to know this stuff when I did tech support. Looong ago, pre-Windows, pre WWW. When it was a wilderness out there. Not much 'common body of knowledge'.

Why can't it be deleted?

Is there an "Edit Post" icon at the bottom of the posts, like all the other Forums? If there is it can be deleted.
